Ganges River Pollution
The Ganges River is in the Himalayas and is one of the leading pollution areas in South and East Asia. It is nicknamed Mother Ganges and is sacred to the Hindu religion. Two million tons of chemical, human, and agricultural waste goes into the Ganges each day. Ashes of dead bodies and whole dead bodies are dumped into the river because it makes them believe that that they will have a peaceful journey to the next life. 80% of all illnesses in India are caused by this certain river. 1/3 of deaths are caused by this. The solution that has been came up with is the Ganges Action Plan, with the purpose of cleaning the river.
Yangtze River Pollution
Yangtze is the longest river in the 3rd world. It provides hydroelectric power, water irrigation, and transportation. Billions of tons of chemical waste are dumped into the river everyday. Nitrogen is the leading pollutant in the river. Plants and animals within the Yangtze are dying, and civilians do not have clean water to drink. The solution to this is more water treatment facilities along the banks.
